Nakupenda & Prison Island – History, Snorkeling & Paradise Sandbank
Set off in the morning from Stone Town aboard a traditional Zanzibari dhow, sailing toward one of the most fascinating spots in the archipelago: Prison Island. Originally used by Arab traders during the slave trade era, the island now offers a peaceful retreat where you can visit historic buildings and meet the famous giant Aldabra tortoises, some of which are over 100 years old. There’s also an opportunity to snorkel around the nearby coral reefs teeming with marine life.
The journey continues to Nakupenda, a stunning white sandbank that appears in the middle of the ocean during low tide. Here, you'll be free to snorkel in crystal-clear waters, spot colorful fish and starfish, or simply relax under a tent set up by your guide (don’t forget your sunscreen!).
As you enjoy the sea and sunshine, local fishermen will prepare a delicious seafood lunch: grilled lobster, fish, calamari, prawns, slipper lobsters, accompanied by potatoes and fresh tropical fruit.
After lunch, unwind with a swim or just lie back on the soft sand and soak in the magic of this truly unique setting.
A perfect blend of history, nature, and barefoot paradise!
